I don’t believe this can be classified as sugar free, when I make sugar free, I don’t use juice or cornstarch, just apples, sugar substitute, cinnamon, and a little butter. The only sugar is in the apples.

I'm sure this tastes great, because instead of neutral flavored sugar, you are using intensely apple-flavored concentrate. However, I once needed to test the sugar level of apple juice concentrate. FYI, it was 50% sugar - not added sugar, but sugar nonetheless.

The "Sugar-Free" bit of the title is misleading. This recipe uses 1/3 cup apple juice concentrate, which is just liquid sugar. The FDA states that "concentrated fruit juice" can't be used as a sweetener in a product labeled "no sugar added" for that very reason. If you want something healthier (but still not sugar-free since apples are also full of sugar), don't add apple juice, just increase the amount of splenda. Most other recipes I see use 1 cup of splenda instead.

I modified it a bit. I used 1/2 Granny Smith and 1/2 gala apples, and mixed all ingredients before putting in as filling for crust. Came out fantastic. My new go-to recipe!

This is my go-to apple pie recipe. I have only had rave reviews and I make this all the time. If you don't tell anyone that it's sugar free then they will never know. Add some Blue Bell Homemade Vanilla and you will satisfy everyone!

I made this pie for Thanksgiving since my husband has limited his sugar intake. I followed the directions exactly and it was absolutely delicious. He loved every bite. Sssh, don't tell anyone it is sugar free and they'll never know. I'm sure I will be making this again. I highly recommend this recipe as a Volunteer Field Editor for Taste of Home.
