Spiced Cranberry Sauce
Total TimePrep: 5 min. Cook: 30 min. + chilling
- 1 package (12 ounces) fresh or frozen cranberries
- 1-3/4 cups sugar
- 1/2 cup water
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon ground allspice
- 1/8 teaspoon salt
- 1/8 teaspoon ground ginger
- 1/8 teaspoon ground cloves
- In a large saucepan, combine all ingredients. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat; simmer, uncovered, until the berries pop and mixture is thickened, about 30 minutes. Cool. Transfer to a serving bowl; cover and refrigerate until chilled.

This is my family's favourite cranberry sauce. I double the spices and cut the sugar to 1 1/2 c. Love it for the holidays and use the leftovers in Greek yoghurt for a dessert/snack treat. The next time I make it, I am going to try adding some lemon zest, as another comment suggested.

I've made this twice, once as written and once tweaked a little. The second time I made it, I used half white sugar and half brown sugar and instead of water, I used apple cider. It's great both ways, but we loved the changes!

This is the only cranberry sauce I have ever tasted so I have nothing to compare it to, but I've made it 3 times now and think it's pretty amazing! I do find it a bit heavy on the spice but it doesn't bother me enough to make any changes.

This was my first time making homemade Cranberry Sauce. So easy and absolutely delicious!!! I will not be buying in jar or can again.

I prefer to serve homemade cranberry sauce instead of canned for my New Year's Day dinner. This is my favorite recipe thus far.

Besides the quickness of assembling this dish, the blend of flavors was spot on. Stirring occasionally and tasting along the way made me even more appreciative of this simple yet elegant side dish. This will also travel in the car well!
