- 1/2 cup cold butter, cubed
- 2 cups self-rising flour
- 3/4 cup buttermilk
- Melted butter
- In a large bowl, cut butter into flour until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Stir in buttermilk just until moistened. Turn onto a lightly floured surface; knead 3-4 times. Pat or lightly roll to 3/4-in. thickness. Cut with a floured 2-1/2-in. biscuit cutter.
- Place on a greased baking sheet. Bake at 425° until golden brown, 11-13 minutes. Brush tops with butter. Serve warm.
Editor's NoteAs a substitute for each cup of self-rising flour, place 1-1/2 teaspoons baking powder and 1/2 teaspoon salt in a measuring cup. Add all-purpose flour to measure 1 cup.

This is my go-to biscuit recipe for biscuits and gravy! It can be easily made by pulsing the cubed butter into the flour using a food processor, then adding just enough buttermilk for a nice moist dough (also pulsed in using the food processor). Be sure to use parchment paper when baking.

One day after school my granddaughter wanted biscuits. We looked up this recipe and made them together. WE didn't have buttermilk so I showed her the trick of using lemon juice and milk. She was absolutely delighted with these puffy, golden biscuits. They have a great flavor. My husband arrived just as we pulled them out of the oven. It was a rainy afternoon and the three of us were quite pleased with our warm, delicious biscuits. This is the easiest biscuit recipe and they're really good.

This is the easiest and best tasting biscuits I've ever found.Thank you Taste of Home. I only have one suggestion, instead of cubeing the cold butter I used my square grater(large side) and it worked great. I will definitely be using this recipe from now on.
