- 2 tablespoons butter
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
- 1/8 teaspoon pepper
- 6 cups coarsely chopped cabbage
- 1 tablespoon water
- In a large skillet, melt butter over medium heat. Stir in the sugar, salt, pepper flakes and pepper. Add the cabbage and water. Cook for 5-6 minutes or until tender, stirring occasionally.

I made it exactly as written, just added a extra teaspoon of sugar and my husband and father in law absolutely loved it. Said it was the best so I will definitely be making it more often.

I chopped up an onion and added to the dish. Also added smoked sausage so I could use as a main dish for supper. Made a pan of cornbread and we had supper!

Try it using bacon grease (doesn't take much) and chopped up bacon bits. Delicious!

Using chicken or vegetable broth will give it more flavor. You also need more than that microscopic amount of red pepper flakes. Add red wine vinegar.

Made this with some cabbage from my garden to freeze. It was very flavorful and delicious My first time making fried cabbage but it won't be my last!

We loved this but I did saute a few carrots and a red bell pepper into it. Guess I just felt it needed a little more body. We had it in a bowl with biscuits on the side. Great meal.
