This is almost exactly the recipe my mom used. We called them Lee Baker Beans (that was her friend's name who gave her the recipe, of course!). We use the butter beans in place of the lima beans. Butter beans are really big and yellow and in a can. Bush's are the brand I consistently find and prefer. This is perfect for football season and packs well and stays hot for a long time for tailgating. A great hearty side for beer drinking events!

I make this recipe all the time for BBQ’s! I substitute Frozen Petite Corn, instead of Lima beans! Always never enough!! Total Hit!!

I can't wait to try this recipe. With a few changes suggested by others, it sounds divine. However, since I live in a very hot climate, it will definitely have to go into the crock pot. Wish there were more recipes converted to crock pot and/or air fryer. Obviously no air fryer for this recipe!!

Donna, I make a very similar recipe, in demand by family. I have bell peppers in mine. I'm from Castleton, my college roomate for 1 year at Franklin College was David Fancher from up-state New York. Any relation? [email protected]

Yummy! but, no kidney or limas...used white beans and black beans instead. Decreased bacon to four strips which I cut into 1" pieces and layed on top, uncooked, instead of frying and stirring into the beans. Bacon bakes on top to wonderful crispy bites. Eliminated white sugar and cut brown sugar to 1/3 cup...plenty of sugar in molasses, ketchup, BBQ sauce, etc! No salt added.

This is the most versatile (crockpot) recipe. I just made this last week adding sweet peppers, wax and green beans, garbanzos, black beans, etc - add and substitute what your family likes. Can be served as a main or a side dish and makes a ton! Sure to be a pleaser!!

I, and my family, love this recipe! I've taken it camping, to reunions, to parties and just for home. Everyone asks for the recipe!

I made these with the following changes. My family doesn't eat kidney or lima beans. So I used a can of Bush's baked beans, and replaced the lima beans with a can of great northern beans. Now my family cleans the dish.
