Since we’ve all been social distancing at home, restaurants have had to get crafty to keep serving. Most fast-food restaurants have pivoted to delivery and pickup orders, and some places have found ways to safely open dining rooms (check out this restaurant in Amsterdam). As restaurants and bars tentatively open their doors for guests, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) want to keep eating out as safe as possible.
The CDC just released a chart for restaurants hungry to be back in business. Here’s what to expect at your local bars and restaurants.
The Latest Guidelines, According to the CDC
This flowchart lists all of the requirements for a safe working and dining environment. The CDC recommends that at-risk employees be protected, healthy hygiene practices (like face masks and handwashing) should be put in place and anyone who is sick should be encouraged to stay home. Restaurants should still be practicing safe social distancing by encouraging delivery or pickup options.
Businesses should be on the lookout for symptoms before employees clock in. If bars and restaurants can’t uphold the standards, or if reopening isn’t in accordance with state stay-at-home regulations, the CDC suggests keeping the doors closed. The good news: We may be back at our favorite burger joints faster than we thought!
Should you wear a mask while grocery shopping? Here’s what the CDC had to say.
How to Do Your Part
We’re more than a little excited to start dining out again, but keep a few cardinal rules in mind. The courtesy of wearing a mask or gloves (or both!) is a necessity right now, and make sure to stay six feet from employees and other customers at all times. Not every state may be opening right away, so it’s important to pay attention to your state’s stay-at-home guidelines and abide by them until further notice.
In the meantime, you can always safely enjoy takeout options at home or throw a virtual dinner party until it’s time to schedule a real one. Thanks to you and the CDC, we’re all getting through this together!
