Alton Brown has been one of the Food Network’s most popular personalities for nearly two decades, hosting everything from Good Eats to Iron Chef America and Cutthroat Kitchen. Don’t have an In-N-Out near you? No problem! Recreate almost the entire menu with these spot-on copycat recipes.
The go-to order
Brown is a big fan of the West Coast chain that’s famous for their burger, fries and shakes. He told Esquire that his order would include one “animal style” burger (that means it comes with hand-leafed lettuce, tomato, extra pickles, extra special sauce, grilled onion, and a patty that’s grilled with mustard) and a chocolate milkshake.
Alton says he loves the In-N-Out burgers, which he describes as “greasy but oddly clean-tasting”. This flavor comes from fresh, never frozen beef patties that are cooked up on the same griddle that caramelizes mini mountains of onions and toasts buns. Plus, Brown can’t get enough of In-N-Out’s actually “special” sauce, which is a Thousand Island-like spread.
Shake it off
The Food Network star raves about the chain’s shakes as well—Alton says they taste just like they did when he was a kid and that “it makes [him] tear up just thinkin’ about it.” It’s no surprise that Brown indulges in these shakes as they’re hand-spun with milk and freshly made ice cream and come in vanilla, chocolate and strawberry. If you can’t make it to the Southwest, follow these tips for making the best milkshake, ever.
